Architect Plans to Create New Ultra-Green Cities are Truly Mind-Blowing

,

There are plenty of places you can associate with green cities. But, when you say “green city”, what do you imagine – electric cars, urban farms, solar panels? Well, all of these are requirements for a city to be listed green.

Recently, Nerd Wallet studied 150 of the largest cities in the country. He ranked them according to eco-friendliness by checking out the places people live, their mode of transportation, the source of energy, as well as the quality of the air. From this, he found out which cities can be considered green. Here are some:

1. San Francisco

It definitely deserves its spot on the top.

2. Washington, D.C.

Okay. We are guessing Washington’s not just about politics.

3. Honolulu

No further questions. Obviously, it’s really a beautiful city.

4. New York City

Whether you believe it or not, it is a green city.

But, if we tell you this place is an ideal and true definition of a green city, can you imagine yourself living here?

Called the OAS1S, this city is the product of the creative mind of Dutch architect Raimond de Hullu. This is his own idea of a green city in its truest sense.

In an interview, he explained his concept:

“We need a new building typology that goes beyond the usual technical sustainability. We need a 100% green concept, not only technically but visually as well, and which is desirable plus affordable at the same time.”

Apparently, he looks forwards to constructing buildings on trees, so as to have natural and original skyscrapers.

He also envisions building communities that blend in with the forests.

He also imagines building an entire neighborhood from recycled materials that function with on-site water systems and solar energy.

What’s best is that he wants this project to become an efficient yet affordable housing opportunity for all.

To make this possible, he wants these communities to be built as land trusts. As part of this model, a community nonprofit organization is formed to buy and own land, and then, houses built on that land are owned by the occupants.

According to the group Democracy Collaborative:

“By separating the ownership of land and housing, this innovative approach prevents market factors from causing prices to rise significantly, and hence guarantees that housing will remain affordable for future generations.”

As of the moment, OAS1S is still a concept, but Raimond is already looking for the best possible place to start the pilot community.

He aims to build the first community within an established city because it can be great for visibility purposes.

Nevertheless, he also looks forward to building the project in an underdeveloped vacation area.

Whatever happens, he wants that the project could retain its essence of “constructing a true balance between architecture and nature”.

Basically, his goal is very simple and that is “to build communities that are good for people and good for the planet”.
