,

The New Century Global Center building which opened in Chengu Province, China is said to be “the world’s largest standalone structure” by Chinese officials. With a height of 328 feet, length of 1,640 feet and width of 1,312 feet, it sets the new world record for the largest building, according to the World Record Academy.

The “largest freestanding building in the world” is situated in the populous capital of the Sichuan province in southwestern China. The 1.7m square meter mega structure is capable of housing 20 Sydneye Opera Houses and is almost three times the size of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

While Burj Khalifa in Dubai holds the record for the tallest building (828 m tall), and the Boeing’s Plant in Washington, D.C. has the record for world’s biggest building by volume, the Chinese malls tops them all when it comes to floor space. It is also recognized by the Guinness World Record for the largest solar powered building.

Visitors to the building will enjoy artificial sun that gives off light and heat even on evenings. It also possesses a 164-yard-long LED screen that serves as a stand-in for the horizon.

Because of the establishment of the New Century Global Center, Chengdu has currently began expansions of their subway line and plans to construct a new airport by 2020. City officials aim to make the city an economic and cultural capital of western China.
