tourmauiWaianapanapa can be found just off the Hana Highway. Natural wonders like natural stone arches, sea stacks, a seabird colony, ancient lava caves, anchialine pools, blowholes, and the largest-known Hawaiian Temple are enclosed in the 120-tropical acre area.

The name of the park translates to glistening water, which has the power to leave the guests in awe, especially when it illuminates on a sunny day. The black sand is not there for nothing. When the black-pitched element contrasts with the illuminated raging waters, it looks more eye-opening.

For some millenia now, there has been rough surf pounding on Haleakala’s fresh lava flow, creating the black sand. The spot is perfect for tanning, dipping your feet in, and of course, taking a few photos. Waianapanapa State Park has continued to prove that it’s a beach that remains unparalleled by any other beaches on the island of Maui.
