Words we thought we’d never hear during our time on earth, “It’s about to get all-natural up in the Trix house.” The company is also ridding themselves, of the animated bunny that’s been the face of the brand since the 1960s. This all stems from General Mills’ promise to remove all artificial colors and flavors from their cereal by 2017.
Complete with its own hashtag and Tumblr blog, General Mills is holding a three-week open casting call in search of the #RealTrixRabbit, according to a press release that rolled out this morning. Yes, you heard it right. It’s the Gerber Baby Photo Search for pet bunnies.
Those nostalgia-panic fans can breathe easier, there will still be a rabbit, just no longer an animated one. The casting call is open, so if you happen to own a particularly cute rabbit, yours could be the face of Trix!
This contest has fine print attached to it like anything else. The rules are unclear, though, as to how many winners will be chosen. Previously, the press release states that the chosen rabbit will “appear on limited run boxes in the winner’s hometown.” Rabbit or rabbits?
According to another press release, “From real rabbits to pets in bunny costumes, kids, parents, and family members are invited to snap pictures or take videos of their furry friends.” So it might not only be rabbits that they’re actually looking for.
Although the real Trix rabbit model-esque commercial is sort of hilarious, the results of the contest are still something in question, but we look forward to the new look. The contest will run from now until November 8.
