Tracey Thompson, 54, delivered her own granddaughter when she acted as surrogate for her daughter and son-in-law from Plano, Texas.
Kelley McKissack, 28, and her husband, Aaron, 33, had infertility issues and struggled to conceive. So Thompson carried their daughter Kelcey.
Kelcey was born weighing 6 pounds and 11 ounces at the Medical Center of Plano. Her parents say she is the greatest gift they’ve received.
Thompson said she didn’t hesitate to step in and help her daughter after the McKissacks tried multiple fertility treatments and suffered miscarriages.
Thompson says, “Her and her husband had gone through so much—the miscarriages and fertility. It is such a blessing that I can do this for my daughter. I didn’t want to disappoint her.”
As a tribute to her contribution to Kelcey’s birth, her name is a combination of Kelley and Tracey’s names.
Thompson had already undergone menopause, but she was in great health. She underwent several evaluations before getting cleared to be the surrogate mother.
Dr. Joseph Leveno, the doctor who delivered Kelcey, says that it takes a strong woman to do what Tracey has done for her daughter.
The pregnancy was fine, but due to complications during labor, Kelcey was delivered via cesarean section.
