Over the holidays, fans of Taylor Swift were surprised upon receiving packages filled with personally picked gifts that took her hours to put together. However, there is this one superfan, who received a very special gift from the singer last Monday.
The superfan, Rebekah Bortnicker, recreated all of the Polaroid photos from the singer’s 1989 album and shared it on Tumblr. Days after, she received an overjoyed response from Taylor Swift herself – a FedEx box that contains a handwritten letter, Polaroid photos and a check worth $1,989.
According to Buzzfeed, Rebekah’s procrastination during the finals week at Barry University resulted in creating the Polaroids. And since this was shared online, she had to deal with bullying. Some said that the pictures are the “fat Taylor version.”
This was her reply to the negative comments:
“When I read it, I sort of laughed. Some said ‘I hate when people are trying to be just like their idols, be yourself!’ well, I’m not trying to be anyone but myself. I didn’t put on a blonde wig and go out and buy her exact outfit. I made it work with what I had. And what I had was just me. And that’s something to be proud of.”
In the letter, Swift wrote, “I was thinking about you today, and how you have been there cheering me on in the most thoughtful and creative ways. Rebekah, now you’re $1,989 closer to paying off those student loans.”
The fan shared a video of her reaction, when she emotionally opened the package and realized that it was Swift’s gift. She thanked Swift on Tumblr saying, “I know I’ve said it so many times already but thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Never in a million years did I ever imagine this is happening to me.”
