Now here’s a story to sweeten up your Valentine’s Day.
When Tamara Bruzzo was rushed to the hospital last February 2015, it was the beginning of a long and tedious battle for her. That fateful day happened to be Valentine’s, and after running a few tests, she found out that she had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The doctor broke the news on February 24, which was also her boyfriend Lucas D’ Onofrio‘s birthday.

But it was just the start of a painful journey. After that, Tamara underwent a grueling 96-hour chemotherapy in the hospital she was confined in.
But throughout her ordeal, Lucas was there supporting her through and through. The two had been high-school sweethearts and have been inseparable ever since.
Tamara’s chemotherapy turned out to be successful since her cancer mass was reduced by an astounding 70 percent after her second session.
On the date of Tamara’s last chemotherapy, Lucas knew he wanted to seal in their love. “I wanted it to be a symbol or closing the chapter of cancer in her life,” he said in an interview with BuzzFeed.
So together with friends, family, and even the hospital staff, Lucas devised a marriage proposal. Clearly, Tamara had no clue what was to come as she initially thought she was just celebrating the end of her fight with cancer. Turned out, Lucas had more than that on mind. After tearing out some Hollywood decorations, he filled the place with flameless candles, balloons, and photos of his girlfriend.
When the big moment arrived, Tamara came in still with her IV and her romantic boyfriend waiting for her with a bouquet of roses on hand. There was not a dry eye in the room as Lucas popped the big question. The end was like something out of a fairy tale as she answered him with a heartwarming yes.
