The Internet went into a frenzy of mixed reactions when this eight-year-old boy’s photo appeared online.
All Ethan Wilvert ever wanted was to try theater style makeup. He had been observing his mother, Season, doing it for a long time and wanted to try it himself. Lucky for him, she was just as supportive of his dream as ever.
So Ethan’s mom brought him to meet Joey Killmeyer of MAC cosmetics to try out looks that could fit his face. The makeover started with Joey doing one side of his face so Ethan could finish the other. Turns out the boy was a natural! He easily maneuvered all the makeup tools and even gained 140,000 thumbs-up and counting for his photo uploaded on Facebook.

Killmeyer has a long history in the world of professional makeup, he has practiced his skill for Miss America Pageants and other events for the past fifteen years.
As for Ethan’s mother, Season, she has done this out of love for her own son. She states that she would want other parents to be more open-minded of the things their children want for themselves. Season also adds an important note: that makeup is not connected to sexuality or gender preference.
Season said she completely supports her son’s curiosity and wants to share her message of unconditional love.
In an interview with The Huffington Post, Season stated, “Society needs to steer away from what is typically known as the gender roles and stereotypes and accept the fact that it’s OK for a boy to wear makeup to express himself as an artist,” the mom said.
“This does not define his gender identity nor his sexual preference. He’s just exploring and being a kid! Being judgmental and close-minded on such issues not only is hurtful to our children, but it also inhibits their freedom of self-expression and prevents the opportunity for them to embrace their true identities.”
