A parent’s love is unconditional. From the moment you hold your child, the bond starts, and that is something that no one can break.
One note from a dad to his gay son went viral. It was a simple gesture of a father’s love. Nate, a high school student from Michigan, had been concerned about how he should reveal his sexuality to his parents.
His coming-out conversation never came to be because he was sent a touching note from his father. In it, his father explained that they already knew about his sexuality and simply didn’t give it another thought.
A Michigan dad eases his son’s worries with a loving note.
The note says, “I overheard your phone conversation with Mike last night about your plans to come out to me. The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now. I’ve known you were gay since you were six, I’ve loved you since you were born.”
The note is simply signed “Dad,” and the father even ends it with a joke: “Your mom and I think you and Mike make a cute couple.”
This picture from the FCKH8 Facebook page shows one way to come out to your family that really takes the cake.
The note appeared on the Facebook page for the Web site FCKH8.com, which is an anti-homophobia organization. It has been liked over 70,000 times and shared 42,000 times. FCKH8.com founder, Luke Montgomery, said that it was e-mailed to them by Nate. He admitted that since they get a lot of mail, he almost didn’t look at it; but when he read it, he burst into tears.
Montgomery says that it’s sad that people are excited about it, and some say that that kind of reaction is rare. A show of support and love like this should be more common. Parents should accept their kids no matter what.
