I think it’s safe to say that the coolest places exist in Tokyo! Take the “Robot Restaurant” for example.

Every night in a basement in Shinjuku’s Kabukicho district,  women in tiny bikinis take the stage to mock battles using enormous robots – no, we aren’t kidding.

At a cost of about ¥10 billion, the Robot Restaurant looks like something straight out of Gaspar Noé’s trippy cult classic, Enter the Void.  The entire place is decked out in  migraine-inducing neon lights, flashing video screens and tons of mirrors (and if you think that’s bad, just check the website).

Customers pay a ¥6,000 entry fee for the full experience. The drink menu extends as far as canned beer, chu-hai and bottled tea. The entry fee also includes a bento box for dinner which includes a choice of meat, rice, steamed veggies and some fruit. There are three hour-long shows each night, in which the gorgeous staff of half naked women take to the stage as giant robots, including a neon tank and enormous female cyborgs.

According to the pamphlet you receive with your tickets, there are “no rules” when it comes to the show! You could get on stage with the dancers and touch the robots. How cool is that?

Shinjuku is an interesting place. It’s strictly business by day, and a rockin’ party by night.  The Robot Restaurant is  located in what’s best described as the “neon district” of Shinjuku so you’re in for a light show to say the least! Basically, the Robot Restaurant carries all the types of seedy things you might expect to find in parts of  Las Vegas or Amsterdam, except with a Japanese twist. Who’s coming with us?
