It all started with Segway. Now, contraptions with one wheel are being introduced in the market. Solowheel and OneWheel showed that one-wheeled vehicles work. The SBU and U3-X put in a seat and took away the handlebars in their mono-wheeled ride while Ryno has both a seat and handlebars.
Enter Moto Pogo. This one-wheeled-scooter looks like a single-wheeled motorcycle. Moto Pogo is backed by Montreal-based entrepreneur Carl Dagenais.
Moto Pogo move forward by leaning their body forward and can be slowed down by leaning back just like Segway.
The rider always stay center above the wheel due to gyroscopic sensors and accelerometers installed in Moto Pogo. The vehicle subtly adjusts the speed to compensate for the shifting center of mass of the rider.
Moto Pogo has a 60-volt 10-amp lithium battery. It powers the scooter’s 500-watt brush-less hub motor. Moto Pogo can run as fast as 25 km/h. It would take 3 to 5 hours to charge the battery. One charging can be good for about 30 km of use.
The scooter has a full aluminum frame, front and rear LED lighting, a regenerative braking, and a built-in rear mud flap.
The one-wheeled scooter only weighs at 29 kg and is able to carry a load of 150 kg as a maximum.
Interested individuals can get one if he/she will pledge a CAD $2,200 or about US $1,790 in Kickstarter. Dagenais is setting the retail price at CAD $2,500 (US $2,035) if all goes to plan.
*Note: Ryno is also planning to produce a Moto Pogo-like scooter that can go as fast as 40 km/h and at a range of 48 km but it is a bit more expensive at $3,500 per unit.
