Hawaii’s Dizzying “Stairway to Heaven” Hiking Trail


Looking for new adventures to do this summer? If you are, you may be interested in challenging Hawaii’s Hai’iku Stairs or more famously known as the ‘Stairway to Heaven.’

The aptly named hiking trail will take brave and adventurous souls to the top of Ko’olau mountain range. The hiking trail is extremely steep that people afraid of heights are advised not visit. The trail spans 3,922 steps and hikers will reach a dizzying height of 2,800 feet above the sea level.

The trail was declared unusable and hiking was banned by the government but that doesn’t stop adventurers in visiting the site. Hikers will be treated with the beautiful view of the island from the top.

The trail is a part of the U.S. Navy’s Radio Station. Construction started in 1942.

It was a top secret facility to transmit radio signals to the U.S. Pacific fleet.

Omega Navigation System used the site as a station in 1950s after the site was decommissioned.

A storm hit the island, damaging the trail in 2015.

The steps were declared unusable. 5 hikers were stranded until they were rescued by Honolulu Fire Department.



The trail has been off limits to hikers but that doesn’t stop adventurers from coming.
