15 Amazing Historical Photos Brought Back to Life in Vibrant Color



With the advancement of photo editing, we are now able to know how black-and-white photos would look like if they were captured in color. It is quite interesting to look at the once black-and-white images with historical importance when colorization is applied. It can add another perspective to these documentaries from the historical past.

Here are fifteen amazing colorized historical photos. These color selections may not be perfect all the time, but they did add another dimension to the photos.


Elvis Presley Meets President Nixon

On December 21, 1970, Pres. Richard Nixon met with Elvis Presley. The King received a Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs badge after he requested for it.

Washington Policeman Measuring the Distance Between Knee and Suit

After Colonel Sherill, the superintendent of Public Buildings and Grounds, issued an order that bathing suits should not be over six inches above the knee, Washington policeman Bill Norton was pictured measuring the distance between knee and suit at the Tidal Basin bathing beach. The picture was take on June 30, 1922.

Crossroads Atomic Detonation

The United States conducted a series of two nuclear weapon tests at Bikini Atoll in 1946. The operation was codenamed Operation Crossroads.

The original black and white photo was taken from a tower on Bikini Island, 3.5 miles away, and colorized by Sanna Dullaway.

On September 20, 1939, the British Expeditionary Force made their way to the war front.

Hindenburg Disaster (1937)

One of the greatest air disasters in the past was the Hindenburg disaster. On Thursday, May 6, 1937, German passenger airship LZ 129 Hindenburg was attempting to dock at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station when its mooring mast caught fire. The disaster resulted to thirty-six fatalities.

Hungarian-born American magician and escape artist Harry Houdini was photographed in 1912 as he was about to make another of his famous escape-act.

English Orphan in London

This boy was orphaned during the German aerial bombing of London in 1945. The boy went out of his house to play and returned to find the house in ruins. His entire family was killed in the bombing. The boy found his stuffed toy animal amidst the ruins.
