Back in 2013, Brooklyn-based artist Jonathan Dagan, a.k.a j.viewz, posted a video of him performing an electronic rendition of Massive Attack’s “Teardrop”, but with a twist — he used eggplants, carrots, kiwis, strawberries, and grapes as musical instruments. But how is this possible?
On the 26-second mark, Dagan shows Makey Makey, a circuit board invented by MIT graduates, Jay Silver and Eric Rosenbaum. This device allows normal objects to take the place of keyboard keys.
In the video, he explains that with the help of Makey Makey, the electronic signals from the produce will be translated into keyboard signals, which he then convert into media signals.
