Incredible Footage of Farthest Hoverboard Flight Ever Recorded

Since the release of Back to the Future 2, fans of the franchise had longed to possess Matry McFly’s infamous hoverboard. Who doesn’t want to travel around on a cool and one-of-a-kind means of transportation?

For a long time, scientists all over the world have researched on the technology and even developed prototypes to match the film’s concept and design of a hoverboard. However, some have decided to go a different path.

Let’s be honest — modernization of technology has not yet accessed the real secret to small-scale flights, which makes it unfeasible to mimic a functional pink hoverboard shaped after a skateboard. So, people have released their own designs of hoverboard (although bigger in size than that of the original concept). Some were fully-operational via magnetic forces to let the board float in midair.

On another note, Catalin Alexandru Duru has a different idea in his mind. The Canadian inventor used propellers to lift his own hoverboard. He even achieved the Guinness World Record for the farthest flight recorded through a hoverboard by travelling a distance of 275.9 meters (905 feet and 2 inches).

In the astonishing footage below, Duru reached the height of 5 meters above the waters of Lake Ouareau in Quebec, Canada, and proceeded to cover a distance of over twice the size of two football fields, before landing in the water.

To set the record, Duru has to only fly at 50 meters in distance, but he exceeded and flew five times the required target.

According to him, he developed the prototype over the course of 12 months. He also claims that his hoverboard can be used anywhere and can reach staggering heights.

“I wanted to showcase that a stable flight can be achieved on a hoverboard and a human could stand and control with their feet,” he added.

A Guinness World Records spokesperson also said that, “This is a truly mesmerising and incredible feat in the world of engineering and transportation.  It’s always pleasing to see individuals such as Catalin Alexandru Duru achieve a Guinness World Records titles such as this in which personal endeavour continues to amaze us all.”
