Meet the Real-Life Rapunzels from Around the World

If you thought that the story of the girl with the long tresses was nothing but a mere fairy tale, then think again.

There seems to be a trend of people who grow their tresses to an inconveniently long length going around nowadays. Why they do it boils down to personal preference, and it does make one question on the measures they take to keep the hair looking healthy at all times.

So without any further ado, here are the unique individuals who have taken a cue from Rapunzel and grown their hair to staggering lengths.

Dai Yue Qin, China’s Long-Haired Queen

Known to her native country as Miss Dyq, this Chinese woman began growing her hair at age 14. Her hair measured at 3,300 meters when it was judged for the 2000 title of World’s Longest Hair. Miss Dyq takes roughly five to six hours to shampoo her hair and she does this every two weeks to prevent it from getting brittle.

Natasha de Andrade, the Brazilian Teen Who Sold Her Hair After Going Broke

Natasha Moraes De Andrade had never cut her hair since the day she was born. It grew up to 5 feet and 2 inches in length. Standing at 5’3″, this made Andrade’s hair just an inch longer than she was, so she had to bring it around so she wouldn’t tumble over it. Her other problems included the amount of money she needed to take care of her hair, and sometimes, her long locks would get caught up in the fans around her house.

When Andrade finally made the decision to cut her hair, it was as if it was a metaphor of her new life. She sold her hair for $5,000 and was able to help her family buy a new house.

Aimee Chase, the 11-Year-Old Who Hadn’t Tried a Haircut

For 11-year-old Aimee Chase, having long hair had literally been a drag. Her 3 ft 6 in long blonde tresses were beginning to be a hassle for her, so she decided to cut it. Chase’s hair was then donated to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that turns hair donations into wigs for little girls who have suffered hair loss due to cancer.

Tran Van Hay, Male with the Longest Hair Length

The late Tran Van Hay was actually never declared to be the man with the longest hair in history, but considering that it did measure up to a staggering 22 feet long, it could have been a contender. Hay’s hair is even longer than the current title holder, Xie Qiuping! But unlike most of the ladies on this list, Hay was never one to provide proper care to his hair, causing it to appear matted in the process. The man from provincial Vietnam was a herbalist his whole life before his death in 2010.

Ni Linmei, the 55-Year-Old Chinese Mother Who Has Not Had a Haircut in 14 Years

For this mother-of-two from China, having to spend a lot of money in taking care of her 8 feet long hair was never a problem. Amazingly, though, her efforts have not been in vain as even with its eyebrow-raising length, her black hair is yet to suffer any split ends.
