World’s Youngest Mother
At five years old, Lina Medina is the youngest person to give birth. The little girl who grew in Ticrapo, Peru, was brought to the hospital after her abdominal area began to increase more than the normal. What was initially thought to be a tumor, turned out to be a pregnancy. Initially, the father was thought to have been the one who impregnated her, which landed him in jail, but he was released later on due to lack of evidence.
Medina eventually gave birth to a son a month after she was brought to the hospital for initial examination. She gave birth in Lima, Peru, via cesarean because her body was too underdeveloped to handle childbirth. Upon investigation by Dr. Edmundo Escomel, Medina’s menarche happened when she was merely eight months old. To date, her case continues to baffle doctors as there have been no other cases of anyone as young as five being able to give birth.
The Mother with the Most Births
Little is known about this woman, as she has remained unnamed throughout history. The only piece of information she has held is being a peasant wife of a man named Feodor Vassilyev from Shuya, Russia. The woman had given birth to a staggering 69 children throughout the course of 27 pregnancies. She had 16 pairs of twins, 7 sets of triplets, and 4 sets of quadruplets between 1725 and 1765.
World’s Oldest Mother of Twins (70 years old)
Omkari Panwar was the oldest woman to ever give birth to twins through cesarean section. She and her husband, 77-year-old Charan Singh Panwar, were not a rich family in India but sought pricey IVF treatment just to get a son. They clearly got more than what they bargained for with twins, but they had to sell their land and livestock in the process.
World’s Smallest Mother
Stacey Herald had transcended medical expectations when she became pregnant three times together with her 5 ft 9 in husband, Will. She stands at a mere 2 ft and 4 in tall, making her pregnancy alarming for doctors. Pregnancy can be difficult to impossible for those born with growth deficiencies such as osteogenesis imperfecta as being pregnant can increase pressure in the stomach and can risk squashing the internal organs. Luckily, Herald was alive and well, she even went on to say that she wanted even more children in the future.
Mother with the Longest Interval Between Kids
Elizabeth Ann Buttle was just 19 years old when she gave birth to her first child, Belinda, in 1956. It took her 41 years to conceive her second child, Joseph, in 1997, and at the age of 60. Amazingly, though, Joseph Buttle grew up to be a happy and healthy child.
