Ellen DeGeneres is one of the most charitable celebrities in Hollywood having raised tens of millions for the charities close to her heart. She uses her platform on her daytime talk show to raise awareness and distribute her donations. Just this past January, Ellen was given the People’s Choice Award for being the Choice Humanitarian.

The show enumerated all the causes that the popular host has supported.
For breast cancer research, she raised $12.5 million, Hurricane Katrina survivors were given $10 million, schools were given $1.7 million, various charities $21.6 million, and $35 million to her TV show viewers. If you add that up, that is an astounding number, and it’s hard to believe one person would be so generous.
And her reason for doing it? She says it’s because she is human. She says, “I want everyone to know that we all really, really love one another. Deep down we all love one another, and we need to get back to that.”
Ellen’s acceptance speech highlighted the importance of being kind and generous. Being kind and generous is not something that should be done for recognition, but rather it’s something that all human beings should be in the habit of promoting.
In ending her speech, she wished the world, love, kindness, and understanding. She said, “We have a lot of people watching in a lot of different countries, and I want everyone to know that we all really, really love one another. Deep down we all love one another, and we need to get back to that. We need more of that right now in the world. That is what most of us feel.”
“Awards are great, but really what makes me happy is making other people happy,” she added.
All of us should be so lucky to share in her sentiments for a kinder world. If human beings could face the world thinking not only how they can make it better for themselves, but also better for everyone, we would all live a beautiful life.
