This is Milana Vayntrub
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Lily is not really Lily after all. Her name is Milana Aleksandrovna Vayntrub. The 28-year-old was born in the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic or what is now called the Republic of Uzbekistan.
She is a political refugee
Life was tough in the USSR because they were persecuted for being Jewish in a country that was officially atheist. They left Uzbekistan when Milana was two years old. They hoped to find religious freedom and political asylum in the USA. It was a long process for them to get to the United States with her family staying in Austria and Italy for a while before being able to go to their final destination. They eventually settled in California.
She was on ER when she was 8 years old
You may know her as Lily from AT&T, but it’s not the first character Milana played in a commercial. She began doing TV when she was five years old. Those Barbie commercials helped her family with their finances. The big break came in 1995 when she landed a guest spot in the TV drama ER, where she appeared on screen next to big star Julianna Margulies at only 8 years old.
She did not graduate high school
She attended Beverly Hills High School but dropped out in her sophomore year. She was looking for a way to finish her education faster, so she got her GED and moved on to the University of California San Diego. There she got her degree in communication, a good choice since she’s known for promoting AT&T products.
She does comedy with the Upright Citizen’s Brigade
The Upright Citizen’s Brigade was one of the most famous comedy groups in show business. Among their alumni are Amy Poehler and Horatio Sanz. Milana trained with UCB as well, which explains her impeccable comedic timing in those commercials.
She’s a YouTube sensation
She has guest starred on different TV shows like Key and Peele, Californication, and Silicon Valley. Before she made it to TV, she was a YouTube sensation. Her videos had hundreds of thousands of views. The channel is no longer active, but if you would like to take a look at Lily before she was famous, watch her viral videos online.
She’s helped other refugees
Many celebrities focus on improving their brand and becoming more and more famous, but Milana has a loftier goal. She is trying to change the world. Her Can’t Do Nothing movement has a 250,000 people worldwide using social media to campaign for the rights of refugees all over the world.
