Zosel said it only took him about 20 seconds for the flight pre-check. Afterward, he “pushed the lever upward and the Volocopter simply sprung upward in a single bound. It converted every movement I made with the joystick. It’s definitely unbelievable what we’ve achieved here.”
During the test flight, the super drone kept to a slow speed and a low altitude for the most part. According to the company, however, future tests will have the machine being tested at higher speeds and altitudes. The machine itself has a top speed of 62 mph.
It was back in 2010 when the Volocopter was first conceptualized, and the company worked hard to bring its first demonstration model to the skies a year later. Since then, E-Volo has seen the concept really take off and materialize in the form of the Volocopter. At present, the company is aiming to mass produce the super drone for the benefit of the air sports market. It is also considering the potential of air taxi services for pre-determined routes.
Although it may definitely be a while before we can all ride on drone-helicopter hybrids to beat the traffic, it seems like E-Volo is leading the way for the rest of us with the Volocopter.
