Domino’s Creates New Delivery Car to Keep Your Fave Pizza Hot Until It Arrives at Your Doorstep

Have you ever felt that disappointment when the pizza arrives cold at your doorstep? Perhaps you should reevaluate your expectations for a $5 pizza. However, Domino’s comes to the rescue with their oven car with the specific purpose of delivering a truly hot pizza.

Domino’s customized the interior of a Chevy Spark by taking out all the seats—except for the driver’s, of course—to make room for a built-in car oven. They named it Domino’s DXP (Delivery Expert). The remaining extra space in the car is for storing other delivery essentials and orders, like dipping sauces, beverages, and other products for your order.

Russel Weiner, Domino’s USA site president, says the vehicle is “the first purpose-built vehicle aimed at revolutionizing pizza delivery.” He also added, “This innovation allows drivers to do their jobs with greater ease and efficiency and demonstrates that Domino’s is absolutely fanatical about making perfect deliveries.”

According to the company, they have other innovations in the field like the corrugated pizza box that Domino’s invented in the 1960s, the Domino’s Tracker meant for the sole purpose of stalking the location of your pizza as it is being delivered; the Heatwave bag that was invented by Ingrid Kosar, but the pizza company was the first to use the invention; and lastly, ordering by text, Twitter, and emoji.

The concept of Domino’s DXP came from the Domino’s Ultimate Delivery Vehicle Challenge. It’s a crowdsourced design contest that lured in 385 creative participants from around the world with a single task—creating a delivery car that would innovate the whole pizza delivery industry. General Motors teamed up with Roush Enterprises to bring the winning design into fruition.
