South Korean tech giant Samsung broke boundaries when they first introduced the world’s first transparent monitor.
This impressive innovation is just the first in a long, upcoming line of see thru computer screens that do not require the traditional back lights to fully function. The 22 inch transparent LCD comes in two types: the black and white type and the color type. Each model has an incredible 1680 x 1050 resolution.
Unlike other conventional LCD panels, the Samsung transparent LCD panel features a transparency rate of over 20% for the black and white type and over 15% for the color type. This enables a person look right through a glass like panel. What is great about this transparent LCD is that it consumes 90% less electricity because is utilizes ambient light like sun light to reduce dependency on electricity.
It also has a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) and the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Interface that can be used by consumers for a variety of functions. From show windows to outdoor billboards, this new transparent LCD is the newest innovation in interactive communication that is a first in the world. And, it is also a one way mirror that ensures privacy for private owners.
Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics LCD Business Younghwan Park said in an interview,
“Transparent displays will have a wide range of use in all industry areas as an efficient tool for delivering information and communication. With the world’s first mass production of the transparent LCD panel, Samsung Electronics plans to lead the global transparent LCD market by developing various applications.”
With this said, it seems that the future for this new invention is quite bright especially in the mass market.
