Cyborgs Will Soon Cast Out Humans, American Astronomer Says

Prominent scientist claims that the last batch of humans in the twenty-first century will be the last “authentic human beings” since technological development is starting to make way for advanced and genetically modified humans and cyborgs.

An American astronomer of the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) named Seth Shostak is afraid that certain major scientific progression can completely change the genetics of humanity.

Shostak argues that the offspring of future humans will be distinct from its genetic roots akin to the differentiation between dogs and gray wolves.

2

Future humanity will be given the option to tinker with his genetics to become something less human.

According to Shostak’s piece, the three key technologies that will alter the human race are artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, and space travel. Shostak believes that researchers and scientists should be wary of evolving artificial intelligence since this is the most perilous.

“The development of general artificial intelligence will surely be the most dramatic driver of change, because it is less a matter of improving our descendants than replacing them with our engineered successors,” says Shostak.

The American astronomer also predicts that humanity can combine himself with advance technology like uploading a human’s emotional traits to machines.

Although Shostak’s claims might sound ridiculous to some people, he does share the same sentiments with renowned scientist Stephen Hawking in some way. Hawking also stresses out on how powerful technology can be the bane of humanity’s existence.

In addition, the famous physicist warns that their will be an increased probability of calamities for the next ten thousand years. Hawking also believes that humans must move out to other planets and create colonies if they want to survive. But what Hawking is concerned most is how technology can create more destructive nuclear weapons and virus creation.

Although there have been backlash against the constant development of science and technology, there is no denying that the current civilization is enjoying a cozy lifestyle thanks to it. As Stephen Hawking said, “We are not going to stop making progress, or reverse it, so we must recognize the dangers and control them.”
