The little boy, named An An, was said to have been born premature and weighed only about 49 ounces. He spent 23 days in an incubator in the hospital and was taken home. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated and the boy’s father took him once again to the hospital, where he had cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead.
After the hospital issued his death certificate, he was wrapped in two layers of clothing and put in a plastic bag as his father transported him to the morgue at about 6:00 p.m. the same day.
The following day there was a bizarre turn of events when around 9:00 a.m. Fifteen hours after the boy was taken to the morgue, the funeral home’s staff heard him crying as they were preparing him for his cremation.
One of the staff members said, “As soon as I pulled him out of the morgue, I thought I heard noises. When I pushed him to the crematory, the noises became louder. I opened the container and saw him moving, so I told the father the baby was still alive.”
According to the funeral home director, the temperature inside the morgue was at 10.4°F (-12°C), definitely not warm enough for the child to survive. Still, they rushed the baby back to the hospital to confused doctors who referred to his condition as a “miracle.” An An is currently in intensive care.
Doctors at the Pan’an People’s Hospital said that this was the first time they ever encountered such an incident, and that they could not explain what happened.
The head of pediatrics, Dr. Chen, said, “I have been a pediatrician for over 20 years. I’ve never seen anything like this.”
