Legend says Don Julian Santana Barrera was the lone settler in the island, when he found a young girl’s corpse believed to have drowned more than 50 years ago. The little girl was floating in the canal with a doll and he believed the spirit of the girl was trapped in her toy because every night, he heard footsteps and agonizing wails of a woman in his place.

In his belief to appease the spirit, he hung the doll on the trees. To further save more souls of dead children, he kept on hanging dolls until the surrounding trees and fences were filled.
