Remember These Halloween Costume Ideas from the ’80s and ’90s?

Halloween is coming up fast, but we’re feeling a little retro here at WowAmazing, so we thought we would share a little of the past with these throwback Halloween costume ideas. Some of these popular costumes are still current today.

Ghostbusters, 1984

There’s something strange in the neighborhood, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!

Hulk Hogan, 1985

In the 1980s, Hulk Hogan was a big deal on TV and for Halloween.

Freddie Krueger, 1988

For a truly terrifying costume idea, why not go as Freddie Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street.

Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles, 1990

In the 1990s, the movie was very popular, and the cool kids wanted to be a teenage mutant ninja turtle.

Barney, 1993

Here is Kurt Cobain, in this photo from 1993, wearing a Barney costume. Guess that automatically makes Barney cool.

Power Rangers, 1994

Boys and girls loved the Power Rangers, and they were all over the place for Halloween in the mid-nineties.

Ghost Face, 1996

The Ghost Face character from Scream made this a popular choice in 1996.

Batman, 1997

Superheros and Batman in particular are always a good classic choice for dress up.

South Park, 1998

After the first South Park episode aired in 1997, it quickly became popular with children and adults.

Britney Spears, 1999

Britney Spears making her debut in 1999 was great for pop culture and Halloween costumes that year. The pigtails and mini skirt from the “Baby One More Time” video have now become iconic.

The Matrix, 1999

The Matrix characters Neo and Trinity are great Halloween costume ideas.

Austin Powers, 2000

Austin Powers is a great comedic character, but perhaps it’s inappropriate to let a child dress up as a sex-obsessed secret agent.
