Family and Friends Remember Young Man Who Gave Up His Life to Save His Sister

,

On a Wednesday in Bronx, New York, friends and family of one of the victims killed during a car crash into a group of trick-or-treaters on Halloween gathered to bid him good-bye.

A funeral for 24-year-old Kristian Leka was held in Hartsdale.

The young man was killed when he saved his sister by pushing her out of the way of a swerving car. Her sister fortunately survived, but Kristian did not survive. The accident took two more victims: ten-year-old Nyanna Aquil and their grandfather Louis Perez, who was 65 years old.

Police believed that the driver of the swerving car might be suffering from a medical condition.

Kristian was an immigrant from northern Albania. When asked what kind of person he was, Kristian’s friends recalled him as a hard-working student and a very family-oriented young dude.

Simon Quofa, one of the mourners, said that the fact that the young man didn’t die for nothing, that he gave up his life for his little sister, should give his family some comfort. He didn’t die in vain. He was a hero.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital

Two more were injured in the accident. These are Kristian’s female friend who is 21; his 9-year-old sister; and 3-year-old Yasmina, who is Nyanna’s younger sibling. None of them were in a critical condition, and they were already treated and released from the hospital. All of the victims are from Bronx.

Police were still at the scene in the Bronx until late into the night on Saturday as they investigated what happened

No charge was filed against the driver. The police department noted that he was diligently cooperating with them. He was later sent to Jacobi Medical Center.

This guy, just like other real-life heroes, had made something only true brave souls will do.
