For many Latinos, a girl’s quinceañera is even more elaborate than her wedding day. Quinceañera is a celebration of a girl’s fifteenth birthday that is celebrated in parts of Latin America and in any communities around the world that are composed of Latin Americans. This is their way of rejoicing over teenage girl’s transition from childhood to adulthood, and these parties are like flashbacks of MTV’s My Super Sweet 16.
These events are expected to be filled with tears as parents see their daughters dance more liñke a queen than a little princess, but nothing can be more heartwarming than this fifteen-year-old’s celebration.
On July 15 this year, YouTube user Tiachata Luera uploaded a video that features a very tender quinceañera moment between celebrant Jasmine and her dad. Jasmine looks like a true princess on the dance floor in her pale blue mega-gown, enjoying a dance with her dad who is still in his uniform and looking so proud of his not-so-little daughter anymore.
What makes this event heartwarming is the fact that Jasmine’s dad is actually a US Marine who unexpectedly came home—to everyone’s surprise, especially Jasmine—just to be with his daughter in the very important party of her life. Jasmine was shocked upon seeing her dad. After seeing each other, the father and daughter then danced to “My Girl” by The Temptations.
It couldn’t be any more fun as after 45 seconds, the music suddenly changes, and the guests are given the most entertaining surprise. The songs transitioned from “U Can’t Touch This” to “Gangnam Style” to the “Selfie” song. Jasmine’s dad managed to nail all the classic dance moves, but it’s when he does the “Tootsie Roll” that everyone goes wild.
There was even a surprise appearance by Jasmine’s little brother who attempts to do the famous dance craze “Whip/Nae Nae” before her dad comes back out to end the performance in the most excellent way.
The bond between this Marine and his daughter will make anyone’s heart melt. It’s so special when a father takes the time to do something this special for his daughter and make her birthday the most memorable day of her life, a date that she will always remember no matter how old she’ll get.
