12 Million Hours Spent Watching Adele’s “Hello” …See 6 Amazing Feats We Could Have Done Instead

Adele definitely had us at “Hello”.

The video-sharing platform YouTube reported that the British singer has broken records with her newest single, generating 1 million views per hour within its first two-day stay on the Web site. In 48 hours, Adele’s “Hello” had amassed over 50 million views.

By the end of the first week, she already reached 110 million views, putting her in the top echelon of views along with hits like Psy‘s “Gangnam Style”. After eleven days, the video is now nearing 200 million views.

The total number of views her videos generated is pretty unbelievable. But we couldn’t help but ask, with the amount of time people have poured into watching Adele’s comeback track, what else could have the world accomplished?

Here are the actual numbers:

  • Views (as of 9:00 a.m. PT, Oct. 28): 110,966,747
  • Length of video: 6 minutes, 7 seconds (rounded to 6.12 minutes)
  • Minutes of watch time:  679,116,492
  • Hours of watch time: 11,318,608
  • Days of watch time: 471,608
  • Years of watch time: 1,291

Given the time, the world could have completed the following:

1. Complete 67 round trips to Pluto

To date, New Horizons is considered the fastest spacecraft. For it to reach Pluto and its moons, it’ll take approximately nine and a half years. Based on the total time spent watching Adele’s video, man could probably have completed several back-and-forth trips to Pluto.

2. Watch the whole modern film series Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars 181,358 times

If you watch the entire Harry Potter collection, you’ll spend about 1,178 minutes. For Lord of the Rings and its extended versions, The Hobbit, you’ll need 1,170 minutes. And if you watch all six Star Wars films: 794 minutes.

To watch all of them, you’ll need 3,745 minutes, which is equivalent to 62.41 hours. Within the span of the “Adele Time”, you could watch these series again and again for a total of 181,358 views. We bet that’ll be enough to make you an expert.

3. Read The Hunger Games, The Twilight Saga, Atlas Shrugged, the Bible, and Game of Thrones 50,989 times

Well, if there is anyone out there who is willing to do it… On average, a person’s reading speed is 300 words per minute. So to finish all the works, it would take 221.98 hours.

Reading A Song of Ice and Fire or Game of Thrones takes 98.33 hours the longest. The Hunger Games, on the other hand, takes 16.75 hours to finish. In the time the world collectively spent watching “Hello”, a person could have read everything on this list 50,989 times.

4. Have 1,684 successive pregnancies

If one woman continuously gives birth to a number of children while listening to “Hello”, she could have 1,684 babies already. However, if we are talking about elephants, then its “only” 713 successive pregnancies.

5. Watch a redwood tree grow from seedling to maturity

Although redwoods vary in age, the oldest living ones are possibly aged 1,200 to 1,600 years old. In Adele Time, one tree has nurtured and grown already. But that time couldn’t match the age of the oldest trees on the planet, the Bristlecone pines, which grows up to 5,000 years old.

6. Go back in time to 724 AD

In the Adele’s “Hello” world, one could travel back in time to 724 AD and check out the creation of Beowulf as well as the time of the Viking exploration.
