Remember when you were little and your mom would take you to McDonald’s for dinner but you had your eyes on that play place the entire time?
If you don’t, your kids definitely will. It’s not secret that kids, of all ages (and maybe even some adults) love the ever-so-classic ball pits at the local fast food restaurants! So, why not make that exciting time permanent right in the comfort of your own home? That’s right, We’re talking about an in-house, DIY ball pit!
In order to make this dream a reality, you will need the following:
• a bundle of 10 foot sections of 1 inch PVC pipes from Home Depot or Ace Hardware
• about 10 bags of plastic balls from Toys R’ Us. There are 120 in each bag. The more the merrier, just depending on how much room you have.
• scrap denim
• high pressure cargo netting
• step ladder
Now, the fun begins:
Cut the PVC into same length pieces, and use them afterwards to build a 4 by 4 by 2 feet frame. As for the netting, a 4 feet square piece for the base and then 4 pieces of 2 by 4 feet for the sides is all that you need. Attach the bottom to the sides and also to each other. Make eight bits of 4 by 5.25 inches tabs from scrap denim. Put them through the PVC and fill the space with the plastic balls. Place a ladder on the side and secure it with zippy ties so your kids can get in easily. Then, hop in!
Here’s a tip: An easy way to clean your at home ball pit is spray on rubbing alcohol.
