U.S. Presidents Prove That Halloween Is Not Just for Kids …See How They Celebrate

With all the spooky costumes and sweet treats, do you really believe that Halloween is just for kids? Since it was built, the White House has hosted a number of spine-chilling parties for kids during the creepiest holiday of the year. But the event is not just intended for the youngsters. As a matter of fact, some of the country’s former presidents and first ladies partied in the Halloween spirit or just decorated for Halloween into their offices. Check out some of the history below:

John F. Kennedy (1963)

In 1963, the kids of John F. Kennedy, Caroline and John Jr., visited their father in his office, donned in eerie costumes for some Halloween treats.

Betty Ford (1974)

The day before Halloween in 1974, first lady Betty Ford and her secretary decided to put a skeleton in the study room of Pres. Gerald Ford.

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter (1977)

On October 19, 1977, Pres. Jimmy Carter and first lady Rosalynn Carter enjoyed watching their daughter Amy Carter carving some pumpkins with her friends.




Ronald and Nancy Reagan (1982)

During the 1982 mid-term campaign, the Reagans returned home from Camp David and saw a pumpkin carved with the president’s message to voters, “Stay the Course.”

George H. W. Bush (1988)

During the 1988 presidential campaign, George H. W. Bush‘s daughters wore their Halloween costumes.

Bill and Hillary Clinton (1993)

Bill and Hillary Clinton imitated James and Dolley Madison for the 1993 Halloween party.

Bill and Hillary Clinton (1995)

Two years after they imitated the Madisons,  Bill and Hillary Clinton dressed up like country singers.

George W. Bush (2000)

The night before Halloween in 2000, George W. Bush made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, wearing a mask.




Michelle Obama (2009)

During her first Halloween celebration at the White House, Michelle Obama wore animal prints and cat ears while passing out treats to children.
