Luckily, with the advancement of technology today, the concept of nuclear car is now within our reach. Engineers are scientists are working round the clock to develop this super car that is eco-friendly.

The Cadillac World Thorium Fueled Concept Car-2

During the Chicago Auto Show, the Cadillac World Thorium Fueled Concept Car was displayed. According to the manufacturer, such car is less toxic to the environment, and it can run for a hundred years without refueling. The car will be allegedly powered by Thorium which will be mounted on an onboard nuclear reactor.

To this day, no working prototype has been unveiled, but Charles Stevens, MIT researcher R&D firm Laser Power Systems, is working on a prototype version of the reactor, the ‘MaxFelaser’. The reactor will shoot laser powered by thorium that can generate enough power to run a car without emitting any harmful gases.

The MaxFelaser will be used to convert water into a form of pressurized steam that would propel the turbine, and generate electricity in the process. The system is supposed to have the capability of producing 250 kilowatts if pure power, which is 335 horsepower when converted.

The reactor, however, will weigh about 500 pounds which can easily fit under the hood of the car.
