Located at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Berlin-Mitte, the AquaDom is a 25-meter tall cylindrical glass aquarium that features a built-in elevator. Along with some offices, a hotel, and a restaurant, this aquarium forms the DomAquaree complex.
Built and designed by International Concept Management, Inc., the AquaDom, which cost around 12.8 million euros, was opened in 2004. It was constructed by a U.S. company called Reynolds Polymer Technology. While the outside cylinder was created on site from four different pieces, the inside cylinder used for the elevator was delivered whole. Now, it serves as Berlin Sea Life Centre’s main attraction.
With a 9-meter tall foundation and 11-meter diameter, the AquaDom is named as the largest acrylic cylindrical aquarium on the planet. It is filled with over 1,000,000 liters of water and over 1,500 fish of different species. In order to feed the fish and clean the tank, 3 to 4 divers are needed.
