A tattoo artist from New Zealand has been doing random acts of kindness, touching the hearts of thousands and thousands of people all over the world. Thanks to social media.
A photo of Jason Ward, a tattoo artist working for Muscle and Ink Tattoo, applying a temporary tattoo to a woman with down syndrome, has proven that it is the little things that make life more memorable and beautiful.
The woman in the photo is Suzie Berry. She visits Jason’s shop every Friday to get herself a tattoo. Whenever she comes, Jason cleans his station, makes her sign the waiver, and then prepares her skin, as if she was about to get a real tattoo.
Although Jason was only applying a stick-on design to Susan’s skin, he still played along with her. He used a spray gun and a cleaning solution, and also used plastic gloves, making it look like he was going to apply a real stencil for a real tattoo.
Every week, the New Zealand-based artist treats Suzie as is she was a real client. He lets her sit down with her at the table and then plots her desired design on the skin. This way, it appears like she was getting a full tattoo experience.
Suzie brings her own tattoos from home to Jason’s shop. And since the very beginning, Jason never charged her for his efforts. He has even made other customers wait a couple of minutes, while he worked on the tattoo on Suzie’s arms.
At first, Jason thought of it as a joke, but in the long run, he has tried to become a close friend of hers. He said, “Why would you say no? You should treat everybody the same. I didn’t even know her name until Monday, when everything went nuts on the internet, but I still don’t know a lot about her”.
“My everyday goal is to make someone smile and have a great day, as I am just an average guy doing average things that make me and my family happy. Thank you to those who have kind words to say about this, that makes me happy,” he added.
The photo has since amassed 177,000 likes and more than 55,000 comments. It has also received a number of comments, most of them praising Jason’s kindness.
Others were very simple, yet powerful, such as “I take 5 minutes out of my day to keep her smiling”, “To take time out of your busy day just to help this lady is amazing. Keep up the good work. I wish there were more people in this world like you”, and “What a great guy! I have a sister with Down Syndrome. It always makes me happy to see good people take the time out to make someone feel special, even if it causes a slight slow down. Keep on it man. You’re a good person”.
